"Labbaikallahummalabbaik. Labbaikalaa syariikalakalabbaik. Innalhamda wanni'mata lakawal mulk. Laa syariikalak"
Eid Al Adha is a festival of sacrifice. It is celebrated at the end of Hajj. This is the most important celebration in Islam. It takes place on the tenth day of the twelfth & last month (Eid ul-Hijjah) of the Islamic (Hijrah) calendar. This festival is followed by a 'Feast of Sacrifice'. which pays homage to the Prophet Abraham's (PBUH) unselfish act of sacrifising his son, Ishmael, to God. In turn, God spared the boy's life & instead substitued a sheep.
Now in remembrance, people sacrifice a lamb, goat, or other animal, & give the meat to family, friends, relatives, & most importantly, the poor. Eid-Ul-Adha is a 4 day celebration. Sadly the public holi here is only for a day. It commences on th e10th day of Zulhijjah & is celebrated in a manner similar to Eid-Ul-Fitri.
It starts with a special holiday prayer, performed in congregation in the Masjid or other suitable place. It is a time of celebration, of visiting family & friends & of thanking ALLAH (Subhanahu wa ta'ala), for all the blessings bestowed upon us. Fasting is prohibited during these days. May Allah bless our good deeds. Eid Mubarak my friendss...
